Self doubt can be overwhelming sometimes. It seeps into every aspect of our life making us feel like we are inadequate and do not matter. Giving up seems like the best course of action to preserve ourselves, particularly during times of high stress or storms of life. Would anyone even notice if we gave up? Do people even notice how much I do and care for them? Does it even matter?
We all have moments or phases of life where we stumble in our faith. The weight of the World becomes heavy and it feels like our contributions to the battle are not making a difference. We think ‘how much of a difference can I be making to the Kingdom of God with what I am doing as just one person?’ Satan seeps into our heart and mind with these lies so easily some days, and we can struggle to recognize them for what they truly are—stumbling blocks on our path to deter us from fulfilling what God has called us to.
What each of us does matters! We are each called for God’s purposes, with skills and talents provided by our creator for His glory. Every little bit matters. Mother Teresa said “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” Every moment, every resource harnessed for the glory of God becomes a “drop” into the ocean, creating waves of mercy and grace for others to experience God’s goodness.
HOW WE TREAT OTHERS MATTERS
Ephesians 4:32 ESV Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
When we take the time to show others God’s love, that makes an impact. Our words and relationships with those around us give others a glimpse of the love and mercy that God provides. As followers of Christ we are called to love each other well. Grace, kindness, mercy and forgiveness are all things we have received from a God who loves us more than we can imagine. As we share what we have received then others will do the same; spreading like wild-fire, overcoming the pain and hatred by shining our light to a broken world.
HOW WE SERVE OTHERS MATTERS
1 Peter 4:10-11 ESV As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Everytime we serve others, like Christ served, we are sharing God’s love and hope to those around us. Whether we do something to serve one person or more, if it is done with a heart for God’s glory, it matters. God calls each of us to moments of service. Sometimes big, sometimes small, sometimes for one moment and sometimes over a period of time. Each of us have been given skills to be utilized for God’s purposes. We are called to use them as we follow God’s plan for our lives. God puts people and circumstances before us so that we can use the talents He has provided us. Whether it be time, money or other resources, God has blessed us with it all to serve others for God’s glory. As we use our resources to serve others for God, He will bless us, allowing us to bless more and more people who will also serve others–multiplying each action for God’s glory.
Does what we say and do matter? Yes! We are all beautifully made by God to serve a purpose for His Kingdom. Will anyone notice if we just give up? Yes, Satan uses those moments to trip us up from our God-given purpose. Pray to God to give you strength and guidance in those moments where self-doubt seeps in. We all have moments where Satan lies start to seem like truth. But remember that the real truth is in who God says we are—loved and made for His purposes.
